Redirect a running investigation

Redirecting lets you correct an active run without stopping it and starting over. Microtica Agents keeps the evidence already gathered, marks where your direction took effect, and sends the Investigator down the new path.

Change direction during a run

While the Investigator is working:

  1. In the message box, type what should change and what the Investigator should do next.
  2. When you start typing, Stop changes to Steer. Click Steer to send the new direction.

Your direction appears in the conversation as Direction queued, with an Undo option while it waits. The Investigator follows it before its next decision, and the status changes to Direction applied. If a tool is already running, it may finish first. Redirecting does not undo tools or actions that already ran.

The Investigator stops working on the old objective, starts on the new one, and includes all relevant evidence in the run’s final answer. You can keep reading the conversation while this happens.

Replace tools waiting for approval

When an approval card offers Change direction and the pending approval batch of tools is no longer the right set of actions, redirect there instead of approving or rejecting it without context:

  1. Click Change direction.
  2. Describe the replacement under Reject these tools and change direction.
  3. Click Steer.

The console rejects every tool in that pending approval, records your direction after the rejected tools, and resumes the same run with the replacement objective. Use this when the Investigator is about to send a message, change a resource, or run another sensitive action that no longer matches what you need.

Write a useful direction

Name both the correction and the next action. For example:

Stop checking Lambda. Compare Bedrock costs for June and July instead.
Do not send that Slack message. List the two latest messages in the channel instead.
Check the deployment in eu-west-1, not eu-central-1.

Later directions take precedence when they conflict with earlier ones.

Redirect, follow up, or stop

  • Redirect while the run is active when the objective is wrong but the investigation should continue.
  • Send a follow-up after the run finishes when you want another chapter in the same case.
  • Press Stop when you want the current run to end rather than take a new direction.

If the run finishes before the Investigator can follow a submitted direction, its status changes to Direction not applied · run finished. If the run finishes while you are still typing, your message stays in the box and the button changes to Send; click it to send the message as a follow-up.
